Request for Additional Assistance

University of Detroit Mercy provides each student with a financial aid package based on the student’s eligibility and the funding available at the time the package is prepared.

Who should complete this form?

  • The Request for Additional Assistance is intended primarily for students who still have a remaining balance and meet one of the following criteria:
  • They have accepted all available student financial aid, including their annual Federal Direct Student Loan eligibility;
  • They are ineligible for federal financial aid because of their citizenship status but are not classified as international students; or
  • They are international students whose financial circumstances have significantly and unexpectedly changed since they demonstrated their ability to finance their education during the admission process.

Students are not required to apply for a private education loan or have a parent borrow a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan before submitting this request.

International students should be prepared to explain what changed after admission and may be asked to provide supporting documentation. A remaining balance by itself does not demonstrate that financial circumstances have changed.

*Important Information *

This is not a general application for additional scholarships or grants. Submitting the form does not guarantee that additional assistance will be offered. Funding is very limited, and most requests cannot be funded in full.

Students who have not accepted the Federal Direct Student Loans offered to them will not receive priority consideration for limited need-based funding. They may still be considered for other non-need-based institutional assistance when funding is available.

Each request is reviewed based on the student’s eligibility, demonstrated financial need, available funding, and the equitable treatment of all applicants.
